It ‘s not often that you meet someone who seems to have it all going on. And athlete, with awesome grades, with college plans, with an amazing story. Seems almost fake, doesn’t it? I am here to inform you that it isn’t. One student here at Butler Traditional High School has the whole world in his hands already. The one and only, Walid El Majbri.
The 18 year old senior isn’t an ordinary student. When he was 7 years old, he moved to the United States from Morocco. His parents decided to move the family in order to give he and his siblings a better education. Before the whole family moved, his father moved six months in advance to be sure this was the country they wanted to settle in. Walid speaks two languages, his first being arabic and his second being english.
Here at Butler, Walid is very active in school activities. He played for our boys soccer team, the boys tennis team, is a member of the National Honors Society, is Vice President of the Beta Club, and participates in Relay for Life! It may seem impossible, but even through all of this, Walid has maintained a 4.0 GPA, and is college and career ready with a 26 on the ACT. he plans on attending the University of Louisville to major in Biology, and will pursue a career in the medical field.
Just because Walid has all of these things going on, doesn’t mean that he loses time to be an 18 year old enjoying his senior year of high school. His favorite food is wings, and he enjoys playing the piano and traveling. This past summer he went to France and Morocco, however his dream vacation spot is Bora Bora.
Whenever I hear the phrase “ the sky ‘s the limit”, one of the first people to come to mind would have to be Walid. Constant hard work and dedication always pay off in the end and I would say that he is a prime example of this. One of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, Walid has more stories to tell than what is written on this paper, and I am sure he’d love to share them with anyone who asks.
