Butler Bears Cross Country Goes To State

Tori Hartlage

Come out and support Butler’s Varsity Boys Cross Country team as they are once again going to state this Saturday, November 2nd. The race takes place at Kentucky Horse Park at 9:00am.

Mikel Norton, a senior from the team, stated that he was very proud of how much this team has accomplished this year and that he never thought that they would be in the position they are in right now. As an Individual, Mikel is aiming to come in the top 30% during state while the whole team is hoping to come in top ten10 out of every school in the race. Mikel’s current PR of the season is 17:01. During this race his goal is to reach the 16 minute marker.

Mikel started his Cross Country career when he was in the 3rd grade. He first started because he just wanted to try it out; but the second he started is the second he fell in love with the sport. With this race being his last with his high school team, although he is pretty sad, he is also very glad that he got the opportunity to run for this long and to make bonds he will never forget. Some people that inspire him are his teammates. They never give up and so it encourages him to never give up as well. One of his favorite memories over the last 4 years of running with Butler is when he went camping with the boys team, also going to state all four years that he has had the chance to run. Mikel is hoping to continue his cross country career, but it all depends on what college he attends next year. Mikel’s favorite quote is: “Trust the Process”.
