Sam Rego joined the Butler Tennis program in the spring of 2007 as Assistant Boys coach to the legendary coach, Dan Ruggles. In the spring of 2009, Rego became Head Girls’ Coach. While at Butler, his squads have competed against the best teams in the 6th and 7th regions, and two of his graduates have gone on to play tennis in college.
The Louisville native earned his Master in the Arts of Teaching degree from the University of Louisville in 2001, and has taught at Butler since 2002. Rego received his coaching training from United States Tennis Association (USTA) professionals and currently plays competitive tennis in the USTA.
Sam and his wife Karen live in Louisville, as does their son Max, an electrical engineer and 2010 graduate of Butler. Max lettered in varsity tennis all four years at Butler. Their second child, Hannah, a poet, attends the University of Arizona as a graduate student in their Master of Fine Arts program.
