The Fighting Bears

Chris Mattingly

Determined; that is the word that describes the defending 6th Region Champions, Butler Boys Basketball. The top-scorers are our senior duo Trey Minter and Cameron Underwood. The Bears also have a very talented young group which includes  sophomore Turrell Cleaves and junior Cole McMichael who go above and beyond in the sport.

The team is off to an early 3-0 record this season, with wins over Bullitt Central, Seneca, and Western. The Bears biggest test of the season, so far, awaits tonight as they take on No.1 Male (3-1), at home. “If we play our game box out and execute we will be just fine” said junior Cole McMichael, going into Friday’s huge showdown with Male.

I also had the chance to ask Coach K.C Goodin his thoughts about what he expects as the season goes along; he said “We have a good mix of veterans and younger guys and are playing a competitive schedule all season long. We look to meet our potential, so we can have another fun ride, back to Rupp Arena, for the state tournament.”

Butler’s  schedule this season consists of No.5 Fern Creek, PRP, Manual, Desales and Jeffersontown.  It is sure to be an exciting match up on tonight vs Male, and certainly an exciting rest of the season so come along for the ride, as Butler looks to win yet another 6th region championship!
